Hi Blogging Friends!

I hope your new year is going good so far! Mine has been going pretty good...no snow, fairly mild temperatures, and healthy...so I guess I don't have anything to complain about. I'm really happy that February is nearly here! It means we're just a little bit closer to Spring. I can't wait to be able to go outside and plant flowers and see my pretty Texas Bluebonnets bloom! Well, it will be here before we know it.

I have been busy with my new passion (just one of many), making jewelry. I have always had an interest in trying my hand at jewelry making but just never got around to it. So, I decided the new year was a perfect time to try it.

So far I've only made earrings, but I have some ideas for some really cute, kinda funky necklaces. I am planning on going to Canton First Monday Trades Day this week to get some vintage supplies for making the necklaces. I should have some made in a week or two. I will be listing my earrings later today on my website in the Handcrafted Jewelry section.

I also wanted to let y'all know that this Friday, Feb. 3rd, will be the first Pink Friday of the year over at Make Mine Pink. The theme will be "Winter Romance". I'm so excited for Pink Friday to start back up! I hope to see y'all there!

Merry Pink Christmas

Merry Christmas Friends!!! I hope you are all enjoying the holiday season! Have you finished your Christmas shopping yet? I am happy to say that I am finished except for maybe a few little stocking stuffers. My packages are even wrapped and under the tree! My Mom came over yesterday and helped me get them all wrapped. Wasn't that sweet of her?
I just love Christmas parties...don't you? Well, I thought it would be fun to have a little blog get together here at my house. Come on in and I will share my Christmas decorations with y'all.

Here is a close up of our tree and my sweet vintage pink Santa Clause.

This is my little cabinet that my hubby Stuart built for me out of an old window. I call it my dog cabinet because it is full of my vintage dog figurines.

On the top of my dog cabinet I have my Bethany Lowe snow people, along with a few vintage pieces.

I just had to share a picture of my sweet little Peppi!

I used vintage sheet music for place mats and vintage rhinestone brooches for napkin rings.

I hope you enjoyed our Holiday Home! We don't usually decorate as much as we did this year, but Stuart was in the Christmas spirit, so we decided to put up all of the decorations.

Each year many of the boutiques at Make Mine Pink get together to give back to a charitable organization of their choice by holding a Pink October event. This year, because October is also "Domestic Violence Awareness Month," we've decided to hold a special "all pink boutique" and contribute 10% of all sales to The Pink Slipper Project. We hope that you'll stop by and see some of the fabulous PINK merchandise that we'll have for your enjoyment.

The Pink October Boutique will open October 7th and run through October 21st.

Happy Monday! Hope everyone is doing good and is safe from Hurricane Irene!

My hubby Stuart and I just returned home from a trip up North to visit family in Minnesota. The weather up there was beautiful! It was such a relief to escape from this terrible Texas heat and drought. We decided to travel a different route than we usually do, so we headed East up along the Missouri River. Our first stop was St. Louis, MO. to see the big arch.

Next we went to Fulton, IL. were we stopped to see this authentic windmill.

It sat right on the Missouri River. It was such a beautiful day! The sky was so blue, and the grass was so green that it looked like Easter grass.

Next we went to Galena, IL., which is a lovely little ski resort town. It is the home of President Grant.

Isn't this a beautiful old mansion? I just love the glass sun room on the side! I can just picture myself sitting in there reading a book. If your ever in the Galena, IL area I highly recommend stopping in for a visit! There is a wonderful downtown full of antiques, home decor and quaint restaurants.

I hope you enjoyed the little tour of our trip. I found quite a few treasures to list on my website while we were on our trip. Be sure to check back later in the week for new listings. Progress is being made!

Hi Everyone! I just thought I would share with you the progress that has been made on my big girl playhouse. It now has a cute little porch and soon it will have a tin roof. We are using vintage wood paned windows, except for one new window in the back that can be opened to let in some fresh air. There will also be a screened door on the front. It is really coming along! I can't wait until it's finished so I can start decorating the inside!

I also would like to remind everyone about the Make Mine Pink Christmas in July. Don't miss out on all of the fun! There are lots of great items being offered at 50% off or more! On July 15th I will be offering this Handmade Cottage Birdhouse at 1/2 price.

Big Girl Playhouse

Hi sweet friends! Sorry it's been so long since I last posted. It just seems like time is just flying by! I hope you are all staying cool this Summer. Here in Texas it has been so hot and windy! This kind of weather is not too good for my flowers. They look like they have been baked in the oven! Oh well...when it gets cold outside I will be wishing it was warm, so I might as well enjoy it while it lasts.

I am so excited!!! My sweet hubby is having me a big girl playhouse / storage building built. I have been wanting one for a long time. I really need a place to keep all of my treasures that I list on my website. Our house is overflowing with pretties! I guess there could be worse things to have your house overflowing with! LOL! Anyway... I wanted to share the building journey with ya'll, but I got a little behind. So now I am going to catch you all up.

This little building is going to serve multiple purposes. In the front part, I am going to fix it up like a cute little shabby chic cottage for me to play in. It has a loft in the top where I can store my totes full of holiday decorations and stuff. The back left hand corner is going to be my little greenhouse where I can keep my plants over the Winter. I will continue to share the building and decorating process with you.

Spring in Texas

Happy Spring Ya'll! I hope everyone is enjoying some nice Spring weather! Here in Texas the weather has been unseasonably warm, until yesterday. We went from temperatures in the 80's to waking up to about 40 degrees. I know, some of you would say that's not cold, but to me anything below 70 is cold. LOL!

I thought I would share a few pictures of our Bluebonnets this year. We planted these about 8 years ago after visiting Fredericksburg, TX. The wildflowers down there are just breathtaking! The Bluebonnets growing on the rolling hills in the Hill Country look like flowing rivers. After seeing that, I wanted to bring a little bit of that home with me. We planted a pretty good size patch on the north side of our front yard that goes beside our driveway. Every year they have spread, and this year I think is the biggest Bluebonnet patch we have ever had!

I also want to remind you all of the Make Mine Pink Friday Shopping Event. This month's theme is, "A Touch of French". I am really excited about this theme! Happy Fall Y'all

I just love this time of year, don't you? Fall is definitely in the air! It has been unseasonably cool here in Texas, but after the summer we had, I'm not complaining.
Stuart has been busy picking his pumpkins and gourds. The picture above is a sampling of what he grew this year. Aren't they pretty? I really like all of the different colors, especially the peach colored pumpkin.
We've been decorating inside the house for Halloween (my second favorite holiday, Christmas is my favorite!). I think this afternoon we will decorate outside, since the weather is so nice.

I would like to introduce you to the newest members of our family.

Meet Coco, Bella and Sandy (the sheep in the background is Juliet). They are Dwarf Nigerian goats. We have had them for about a month. At first they were a little skiddish, but the are settling in quite nicely now. Even though Juliet is about twice as big as they are, they all get along very well.

Junkin Treasures

Hi Blogging Friends! Hope everyone is enjoying the last days of Summer! Where has this month gone? It seems just like yesterday I was counting the days until Spring, now Fall is upon us. As much as I love warm weather and hate cold weather, I must say, I am so ready for Fall! I can't wait to set out the pumpkins and goblins and feel the crisp fall breeze. My husband has planted lots of pumpkins and gourds this year and they are really growing nicely. I will have to post some pictures of them growing on the vines. They look so pretty!

This past Saturday my Hubby and I, and my Mom and Dad, decided to get out and do a little junkin. We went to one of my favorite little junkin stops and look what I found!

Is this not the cutest vintage telephone table and bench you have ever seen?! Well, when I saw it I knew I had just the perfect place to put it! Of course, as I've mentioned before, my house is absolutely full of stuff! But I think I can squeeze this in. Then, sitting right beside this was this...

I believe this is supposed to be a jewelry cabinet but it is missing the legs. It is still really cute and I could really use the storage. I think this little sweetie will sit on top of the nightstand in the extra bedroom ~ studio. It will work perfectly to hold my craft supplies.

Here's a funny little story for you that happened while we were out junkin. I walk on crutches (full time) but I ride on a scooter for long distances. Well, my scooter wouldn't fit in my favorite shop, so I got up and walked on my crutches. Well, to make a long story short, I forgot my crutches at my favorite shop. We shopped all day, returned home, and realized that I didn't have my crutches. Luckily I have an extra pair so I'm not completely stranded. We called the shop owner and she said that she would hold them for me. Now I guess I will just have to go shopping again at her shop so I can get them. He He He! Isn't that a shame? :)

Pretty Finds

Hi blogging friends!
This past weekend I got to go to Canton's First Monday Trades Day. Oh how I love Canton! If you want it, they've got it! Here are some of the treasures I found.

All of these pretties will be listed on my website soon. Aren't those little deer the cutest? I love them! I am having a hard time parting with them, but my house is so full of treasures that I don't think I could possibly fit one more thing in it! Well...maybe I could find space for just one more thing. :)

These two items I am definitely not going to be able to part with! Well...there goes the whole nothing else will fit in my house idea. This vintage coffee maker is electric and still has all of the parts to it. I think this will look really pretty sitting on top of my antique china hutch. And I collect vintage girl figurines, so I couldn't possibly part with her either! :)

I will be parting with these sweet vintage photo album pages though. Aren't they sweet? I just love them! They would be perfect for an altered collage! They would be pretty to just use as photo frames too.

Cute Little Purse

Hi! Hope everyone is enjoying their summer so far. It has been so hot and dry here in Texas, especially for June. I hate to think what it will be like in August!
A few weeks ago I got a new toy ~ a Cricut Create! I hade been wanting one far awhile and decided to go ahead and treat myself. Here is my first attempt at actually making something with it.

Isn't this little purse cute? I made it using the Tags, Bags, Boxes and More cartridge. This would be perfect to put a gift card in as a gift. Or, it could hold a little candy, some pretty blingy jewelry, or small party favors. There are alot of really cute things on this cartridge! I think my next project with this cartridge will be making a matchbox.

Green Jeans

Hi Everyone! I have been MIA for awhile, but I thought it was about time we caught up. I have been really busy this spring! First we had a gigantic garage sale back in May. I think we worked on getting ready for that for nearly a month. Whew...that wore me out! I am so glad to have that over with and to have been able to get rid of some of the junk that I had collected over the last couple of years. I now have some much needed extra space in my house! I really enjoy dragging stuff home from garage sales and flea markets but sometimes you get home and you think....what did I buy that for? Have you ever done that? :)

After our garage sale I had an old pair of jeans that didn't sell, and we were thinking,...now what could we do with these? Well, between my Mom and me we came up with a few ideas. First, I don't like to carry a purse, so I have a really hard time carry my cell phone. So, my Mom made this really cute cell phone pouch out of one of the back pockets.

Didn't it turn out cute! She made Velcro straps on the back to hook to my crutches. Now I can always have my cell phone with me and not have to carry a purse.

Next, I have been wanting a craft apron for some time now. So, with the rest of the jeans she made me an apron.

I really love how this turned out! So cute and feminine, and of course pink! Now I can carry my phone, my scissors, glue and glitter...whatever I can stick in the pockets, and still be able to walk on my crutches. What a great way to recycle and be green! Don't I have a good Mom? She is so crafty!

Amour Valentine Swap

Happy Valentine's Day!
I hope everyone is enjoying this sweet day and spending it with someone they love! I recently participated in a Valentine Swap hosted by Cathy of Treasured Heirlooms. My swap partner was Linda of Country Pickins. I really enjoyed being her swap partner and getting to know her!

I went shopping the other day at one of my favorite places and found just what I had been looking for! This beautiful vintage mirror!

I had been looking for something new to hang over my entertainment center, but just hadn't found the right thing. I am very pleased with the new look!
While I was out shopping I also found some new vintage treasures that I will be adding to my website this week. I have also been working on some Valentine goodies that I will be adding soon, so be sure to keep an eye out for them.

I know this is a little late, but I wanted to share some of my Christmas decorations with you before I take them down.

This is my Christmas village that sits on top of my entertainment center. I got some more of these sparkly houses at the after Christmas sale at Target. So, next year my village will be bigger and better!

This is my white Christmas Tree decorated with my Simply Shabby Chic ornaments.

I must have been a very good girl this year because Santa was very good to me!

My sweet hubby Stuart gave me this pink Kitchenaid Mixer! I have wanted one of these forever!

I absolutely love this vintage shabby birdcage that my wonderful parents gave me! There is a story behind this birdcage. There is a Victorian house a couple of blocks from our house, and this beautiful birdcage was just laying in the flowerbed in the dirt. It has been there for probably a year. Every time we drove by that house I would comment about that birdcage laying in the dirt, and how one of these days I was going to stop by and ask them if they wanted to sell it. Well, my Mom and Dad beat me to it. I was so excited when I saw it! I was totally surprised!

I hope everyone had a very Merry Christmas and that Santa brought you everything on your list!

Hi! Well, it's Monday again and you know what that means...it's time for Show & Tell at Make Mine Pink. Today I thought I would show you a couple of new items that are for sale on my website.

First are these beautiful pillows handmade by my Mom, Linda Barker. Don't you just love these? She made them using Moda Seaside Rose fabric and a vintage dresser scarf. I can just see these pillows sitting in pretty chair or on someones bed.

Next, is this Shabby Garden Chandelier handmade by my husband Stuart. I really want one of these for my back porch! Maybe if I'm good he'll make me one! I really think you could use this in the house too. What do you think?

Happy Monday Sweet Friends! Hope everyone had a wonderful 4th of July, I sure did. Saturday, July 4th was my Nannie's 90th birthday. All of the family got together to celebrate at my Aunt's house and we had so much fun!

My family and I just returned from a trip to the beautiful Hill Country in Texas. We went to Fredericksburg, TX which is a German town. It is such a pretty town! There are lots of little shops and German restaurants. I thought I would share some pictures with you.

Hello Everyone! I have some very exciting news this week. Shabby Shan's Cottage will now be carrying Morenci Candles. These are wonderful candles! I have personally been using these candles for awhile now and absolutely love them. They burn evenly and don't leave wax on the sides of the jar. My favorite scent so far is the Creme Brulee. I leave the lid off of mine and I can smell it without even burning it! Morenci Candles is a family owned and operated business right here in the United States.

Good Morning! My show and tell today is actually a question. For Christmas I received this cute little cherub thing that is stamped Germany on the bottom but I'm not sure what it used for. My dad said it looked like it was for holding cigarettes, but I said it looks like it is to be used as a bud vase. What do you think it is for?

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas at Shabby Shan's Cottage. The stockings are hung and the Christmas tree is lit. The one thing that was missing was a gingerbread house. So, I bought one of those kits to make one. Of course the candies that came in the kit weren't pink so I had to buy more candy. I was actually surprised that it went so smoothly. I am very pleased with the finished product, what do you think?

My husband Stuart has also been busy building a new birdhouse that will be available for sale at Shabby Shan's Cottage.

Hi Everyone!
This weekend my husband Stuart and I had the pleasure of visiting one of the prettiest nurseries I have ever seen. The reason we went was because Stuart grows fall gourds and we went to trade the gourds for some pumpkins. The name of the nursery is Caney Creek Nursery and it is located in Whitewright, TX on Hwy. 160 south. The owners name is Sarah Busch and she is the sweetest person you would ever want to meet. She has pumpkins galore as well as mums and pansies

This is Stuart with the gourds he grew.

This is me and Stuart.

The inside of the nursery is just as lovely. She offers antiques and collectibles for sale and the decor is absolutely beautiful. If your ever in the area I would highly recommend at visit to Caney Creek Nursery.

It's Show & Tell Monday at Make Mine Pink and I thought I would show you some cute Halloween tags I have been working on.
I made them using vintage greeting card images, silver German glass glitter and vintage seam binding. I think they really turned out cute. I also made another set of Halloween tags with different images. Both sets will be listed in My Little Pink Boutique. I am also working on some Halloween plaques that I hope to have finished in a day or two.
Don't you just love fall? The mornings are so cool and crisp, the leaves are falling and the mums are blooming. It makes me want to go buy some pumpkins and decorate my porch.

How do you think it turned out? I'm really pleased with it. There is a lot of details in this one. From the individually pieced shingles to the columns that are painted pink and green. Hi Everyone!

Well, it's Monday again, you know what that means. It's Show & Tell Monday at http://www.makeminepink.com. This is my first Show & Tell so I thought I would share my good news. I finally got my Little Pink Boutique opened! Here are a few thinks you can find in my LPB.

Here is a birdhouse that my husband is building that will be in my LPB when it is finished. It will be white with a vintage glass doorknob. I'm thinking about painting the collums pink. What do you think?

My Craft Station

Hi Everyone!
Sorry it's been awhile since I blogged. I have really been busy trying to get my craft station fixed up and organized. I'm turning an extra closet into a craft area so I don't have to do all my creating on the kitchen counter tops. My husband built me an extra shelf in the closet as my work table. Now I'm trying to get all of my supplies organized in baskets and containers. It is really quite a job, because I have a lot of stuff! When I get it finished I will post pictures. I should have taken some before pictures, but you know how that goes.
I am also working on making business cards and thank you for your purchase cards. I hope to have a Little Pink Boutique at the Make Mine Pink website very soon. I can't wait! I will keep you updated on the progress.

Summer Vacation

Hi Everyone!

My husband Stuart and I, along with my parents, his parents and brother & sister in-law, just returned from the best vacation ever. We went on an Alaskan cruise! I can't even begin to tell you how beautiful Alaska is, so I thought I would show you instead.

We flew to Seattle, Washington where we boarded Holland America's Westerdam. The first picture is in Glacier Bay. Then we were off to Juneau, Alaska where we went on a whale watching trip with Captain Larry (and shopping). There we saw sea lions (second picture), orca's and whales (last three pictures). The next stop was Sitka where Stuart went fishing and caught Coho Salmon (and I went shopping). Then we went to Ketchakan. Guess what we did there. That's right, more shopping! Our last stop was Victoria, British Columbia, where we did more shopping. Then it was back to Seattle where we caught a plane and flew back to Texas. If you've never been on a cruise, I can't emphasize enough how much I recommend it. The ship was beautiful and the food was wonderful! But of course, there's no place like home.

Hi, Welcome to Shabby Shan's Cottage!

Well, I have finally gotten around to writing my first post on my blog. I am very new to this so please be patient with me. I thought I would start out by telling you a little bit about myself. I am 38 and married to Stuart, the best husband a girl could ever want. I am also the Momma to a cute little chihuahua, Peppi. We live in a small town in Texas, where I have lived practically my whole life. I am very close to my parents, who also live very close to us, so that works out really well. We are very active in church and feel very blessed to have such a wonderful church family.

I love shabby chic decorating! One day I was reading my Romantic Homes magazine and I noticed a pretty pink advertisment for a website called Make Mine Pink. I decided I would check it out, and boy was I glad I did. What I found was a wonderful group of very talented women who loved the same things I do. These ladies have inspired me so much that I have started this blog and hope to have a Little Pink Boutique of my own very soon.
